Columbian Wyandotte hen



I wanted my chickens to be beautiful and kid- friendly, so I chose these three heritage breeds of chicks; the Columbian Wyandotte, the Silver Laced Wyandotte and the Brahma.

The Columbian Wyandotte is "docile and sweet, a great cuddler. She loves to sit on [your] lap and have her head rubbed. She is quiet. She lays speckled brown eggs". I'm sold. Speckled eggs??? Awesome. And just look at this beauty!!! She is pretty mellow so far.






Silver Laced Wyandotte



The Silver Laced Wyandotte is equally gorgeous. She is "calm and friendly, and will lay good sized eggs daily varying from light to rich brown".  Spectacular coloured feathers!!! So far, she seems like the boss of the bunch and pecks at the other chicks. She's a character already!















Light Brahma hen



The Light Brahma is an ancient breed of chickens originating from India. Said to be sturdy, intelligent, active, friendly, she is also wonderful with children, gentle-natured, and easy to handle. The special feature of the Brahma is the feathers on her feet. Our brahma chick, Ganesh, is my favourite so far. She seems more sensitive than the other two.
